Before applying to the route candidates should:
- Hold a UK degree of 2:2 or higher (or equivalent) qualification International applicants must demonstrate through UK ENIC that their degree is at least equivalent to the 3rd classification. Degrees lower than a 2:2 may be considered alongside other application information on an individual basis.
- Have an equivalent to grade 4 (formerly a grade C) in GCSE English and mathematics. Applicants for primary must also have science subject at grade C. The University of Southampton recognises A Star Equivalence tests.
- Be employed in a school as an unqualified teacher with significant whole class teaching experience. Your Headteacher and school must be supportive of your application and willing to write a reference stating this and confirming that you have undergone DBS and health clearance checks as part of the school’s recruitment process
- Have a mentor assigned to them in the school to help support them through this process and to be a point of contact with the University throughout the Assessment Only process
- Be aware that on completion of QTS that their school should be able to support them in the ECT process. Schools will need to confirm that they can do this on the registration form.
- Be able to obtain a reference or statement of support from your second school as part of the process.
