Intensive Training and Practice
Please see the individual tabs to give you an overview of ITAP content throughout the year – please note that the headings give the overarching theme of the ITAP but the granular detail can be found in the links and in the Professional Studies handbook, which also outlines all Professional Studies days along with follow-up tasks for Mentors in schools.

Assessment for Learning: 27th-29th November 2025
This ITAP will be held at The Romsey School, as it was last year. The format of Wednesday and Thursday will be a conference style environment focussing on a blend of theory and practical workshops. The focus is on where and how pupils are being assessed in lessons with a specific focus on the language used to frame questions/tasks.
SEND: 9th-13th February 2026
The dates of Tuesday 10th February-Thursday 12th February (inclusive) will be in Focus Placement schools following feedback from last year. The booklet for school-based tasks to be implemented can be found on the SEND tab. The focus is on high quality teaching, particularly clear and unambiguous language in both expositions and tasks. We also explore how TAs can effectively support pupils by supplementing support from teachers, again by looking at the language used.
Adaptive Teaching: 13th-16th April 2026
Again, following feedback last year we have moved part of this into main placement schools for the 15th and 16th April. Please see tab for more details. The focus is on the importance of formative assessment in adaptive teaching -how teachers adapt their language according to information gained from formative assessment.
KS2: 3rd-5th June 2026
Beginning teachers will be in a KS2 setting to explore how to transfer this to high expectations in planning for Year 7.The focus will be on maintaining high expectations in Year 7 by focussing on language and the potential for shared vocabulary from KS2 during transition.
