You will be in regular communication with your beginning teacher’s university subject tutor via email. In addition to this, they will also carry out the following school based visits:

Base placement

• 1 in-school visit including joint lesson observation in the second half of the Autumn term
• 1 in-school visit including joint lesson observation in the Spring or Summer term.
• Additional visits if required due to progress concerns

Focus placement

• 1 online monitoring meeting

Requirements for in-school visits

In school visits will require the following:

• A co-observation with both tutor and mentor to see the beginning teacher teach
• Feedback on the lesson led by the mentor with the tutor present.
• Time for the tutor to discuss the beginning teacher’s progress with the mentor without the beginning teacher present.
• Time for the tutor to discuss overall progress, check paperwork etc. with the beginning teacher (no requirement for the mentor to be present for this).

You will receive communication re. school visits from your mentee’s university tutor in good time and should liaise with them regarding the logistics and timing of these.
